Welcome to IndyRockets

This site was created as a resource for anyone interested in hobby rocketry in central Indiana.

This is also the source for information on the Rocketeers Of Central Indiana (ROCI), Section #625 of The National Association of Rocketry (NAR). Feel free to check here for information about ROCIs launch events. The launch events are conducted throughout the warmer months at the Academy of Model Aeronautics' Headquarters and Aeromodeling Center in Muncie, Indiana. This facility is the finest flying field in the state and ROCI is proud to be the exclusive host of the rocketry events held there. ROCI is not currently conducting meetings as we have lost our meeting place.

Hi Mario,
My thoughts on the controller:
When launching, it was hard to keep an eye on the rocket on the pad and the countdown numbers on the screen at the same time, especially when it was bright and hard to see the screen.
A voice in the box to read off the countdown would fix that but I'm not sure how loud you could make one so that one mike would work for LCO to announce the flight and the controller to be picked up by the same mike.
Other than that, the system was great.

I've changed the display on the Pad Controller a bit. The pad numbers are now the most prominent feature of the display so it should be easier to read them in the sunlight. You'll still need to shade the screen a bit to see them in bright sunlight.

I've got 5 pad controllers working now. I'm also looking into the availability of sunlight-readable LED displays. And, I've updated a fair amount of code to try to address the intermittent hangs -- time will tell if I have been successful in that.

FWIW, the boxes are now doing full handshaking with timeouts. I've increased the bandwidth to four times the previous setting so the commands should execute significantly faster. I'm seeing full command times in the range of 100ms to 125ms on the bench but will need to do some testing for the longer distances to away pads.

Do you need some help with testing them?

Adding a voice wouldn't be too difficult and a small audio amp built-in would solve and volume issues. Having audio has always been a feature I've been planning on for the very reason you mention. I guess I just need to figure out what text-to-speech module I need.
