Welcome to IndyRockets

This site was created as a resource for anyone interested in hobby rocketry in central Indiana.

This is also the source for information on the Rocketeers Of Central Indiana (ROCI), Section #625 of The National Association of Rocketry (NAR). Feel free to check here for information about ROCIs launch events. The launch events are conducted throughout the warmer months at the Academy of Model Aeronautics' Headquarters and Aeromodeling Center in Muncie, Indiana. This facility is the finest flying field in the state and ROCI is proud to be the exclusive host of the rocketry events held there. ROCI is not currently conducting meetings as we have lost our meeting place.

I can’t image how tough life is for Mario given his wife’s condition. My heart goes out to them.
As a relative newbie I have some questions and comments. Seems to me that we need other club members and officers to step up in this interim to help Mario. However, I only know the name of one other club officer, the treasurer. I think that there is some admin work that needs to be done annually with NAR to maintain our standing with the national office. Who has done this for 2020? Several months ago I asked if anyone had requested the NAR annual grant money and never received any answer. (I did see in a NAR ebulletin that section grant monies were still available. My past section in TX always asked and received this for equipment.) What is our financial standing as a section? Before all this COVID stuff, I had volunteered my basement for a club meeting as I understood your previous meeting place is no longer available. Now it probably makes more sense to have a virtual meeting to work out club mechanics. A little more structure could help us spread out responsibilities so that we have a great section.

We have had the same slate of officers for a long time. It would be nice if we had a place to meet so we could discuss things and maybe convince someone to step up to handle parts of it. I’ve been the interface to the AMA for 20 years. I’v also been president of ROCI for about 15 years. Terry Bush has been vice-resident but he doesn’t seem to be doing much rocketry. I’ve also taken care of our dealings with the NAR and the FAA, including issuing NOTAMS and activating waivers. When I broughtPam home I couldn’t get either of the people on our waiver to commit to handling it so I went outside the club and Lee Berry stepped up.

Something has to be done because I don’t need the kind of crap that’s been happening here.

I am now officially retired (actually just quit working and living off savings and mil retirement). This means I have time when not doing farm work. Means I have time : )
I am ready to help with this, but we do need to have at least a quick meeting. I can get the Greensboro or Kennard community centers - small but workable and probably cheap. We could also gather at AMA at the pavilion post-launch day to chat it out and work a quick way forward.

Mario - I have been there and it is a huge weight. You shouldn't need to worry about anything else, just coming out when you get a break and having fun (if you feel like it).
