Welcome to IndyRockets

This site was created as a resource for anyone interested in hobby rocketry in central Indiana.

This is also the source for information on the Rocketeers Of Central Indiana (ROCI), Section #625 of The National Association of Rocketry (NAR). Feel free to check here for information about ROCIs launch events. The launch events are conducted throughout the warmer months at the Academy of Model Aeronautics' Headquarters and Aeromodeling Center in Muncie, Indiana. This facility is the finest flying field in the state and ROCI is proud to be the exclusive host of the rocketry events held there. ROCI is not currently conducting meetings as we have lost our meeting place.

John: I didn't get a text message from you - we didn't have a meeting on the 16th.

I got 8 rails (6 10/10's and 2 15/15's) cleaned prior to launch and have 6 more of ROCI's 10/10 rails to clean. The ones I have now are pretty bad and corroded. I have them outside with Dawn rinsing prior to Hoppe's #9...

Since these weren't cleaned in a long time, the anodizing is breaking down (little white spots of corrosion pox). Once the anodizing is gone, the APCP residue from the composite motors will eat em up quick.

Rails aren't cheap and should probably be cleaned with vinegar / Simple Green / Windex post launch each time and then coated with WD40, Seafoam or Teflon spray prior to storage. Teflon is recommended on TRF as it is slick and doesn't attract dust. I also found some no scratch pads (blue instead of green) that "may" work on newer rails w/o damaging anodizing.

Hi Robert,
I will send you a text soon. What do you think about getting together sometime and going through the stuff in the trailer and separating the good from the bad. There are several old high power pads that could be useful if cleaned up, but with all the new pads we have i am not sure what use we have for them. Maybe we could shop them around on a forum. After a launch seems to not be a good time to do this type of stuff, as it is usually around 5;30 6 oclock before everything is packed up already.

Anybody else in the group interested in getting together and organizing the trailer? I am thinking September 19, the Saturday after our next launch, around 10AM? We can sort out the stuff we no longer use, toss the junk, figure out what to do with things that might still still have use elsewhere. That would surely help with setting up and taring down for launches.
Thanks,
