As far as pad issues go, coordinate that stuff with Mark Newton. I've got my hands full with the launch controllers. I didn't originally envision the controller design, fabrication and programming as a one-man project but such is life. Final testing starts on it tomorrow.

Also, we need two scales for rocket check-in. One needs to be able to handle HPR models.

1010/1515 Rails 2 years 3 weeks ago #2590

Guys: for the 1010 rails, I will need 2 nuts/bolts for each rail we purchase. As most people are using rails--esp. for rockets over 1/4" rod size, I favor that we have 12-15 of them for the range. To mount them, I use a 12 inch piece of 1/2" metal rod--6 inches to attach the two bolts/nuts to the rail slot, and 6 inches for insertion into the launcher head.

Personally, I think one 1515 rail will do. I have one of my own that I could bring as well. Launchers should handle it. Don't forget, we have about 10 old launchers, including a couple of them that have the heavier heads on them. I'd suggest we set one of them up for the 1515 rail. Will probably have a designated place near the pads to lay down extra rails/rods, so we can swap if needed.

While we're talking about the range, we need to decide how we want things arranged. The new system works with groups of 6 pads and we have 8 boxes (or groups.) I really don't see a need for 6 HPR pads on both the left and right side of the range but I could be wrong. I suppose nothing requires us to populate the entire group with pads so we could do 3 and 3 with a loss of 6 pads on the range. That still allows for 42 total pads. Also, nothing says that both sides of the range need to be set up the same so one side could easily have more MPR while the other has more LPR.

What do you guys think?

I vote for for 3HPR, 6 MPR and 12 LPR on each side, if we have enough low power pads. I can't remember how many of the saw horses we have and have no idea what may have been launched at previous Narams.

We also need signs to label the launch pads.Your system is labelled left and right, isn't it Mario? So we would have L1-24 and R1-24.

I also vote yes to the ceramic blast shields.

Mark, You need the T nuts with 1/4-20 threads?

I think 15 1010 rails and 2 1515 rails, with 3 T nuts for each rail, 1/4-20 threads on all of them (if that is what we need. That way we can use the third T nut for a standoff on each rail.

What weight range for a scale do we need?

I have a small one that can be used for smaller rockets, forget the range, but had to split my Devastator in two to weigh it, so it is no good for anything of any size.

All
I refurbished the original 4 sawhorses (12 pads) and dropped them off at the CIRFF launch.
They were all cleaned, re-painted, newly tapped for 10-24 thumb screws, all thumb screws
replaced with stainless steel, all launch rods replaced with stainless steel rods (3 1/8 inch
and 1 3/16 inch for each set of 3 pads, all bolts and hardware replaced with stainless steel,
and new collars to hold blast deflectors.
I currently have 4 new sawhorses (12 pads) under construction to the same specifications.
Completion should be next week.
I also plan on making at least 12 new blast deflectors out of 1/8 aluminum and have those
ready for NARAM.
After consulting with Mario, the left bank is Yellow and the right bank is Blue, which will also
match the color coding on the new control boxes.
This will give us a total of 24 low power pads.

I'm working on labels for the LPR racks and the pad boxes. We will need some Blue and Yellow pad numbers (1 to 6) for each group.

The pads are arranged by Bank (Left or Right), Group (A - H), and Pad (1-6) so a pad designation would be like "Left - A1."
